Marcelle Soviero is the Editor-in-Chief of Brain, Child: The Magazine for Thinking Mothers. Founded in 2000, Brain, Child is the largest literary magazine for mothers. She is also an award-winning essays have appeared in various online and print media including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Salon.com, Eating Well, New York Metro, Fairfield Parent, Big Apple Parent, Babble, Literary Mama and Upper East Side magazine. In addition, her essays have been featured on American Public Media’s syndicated radio show, The Story. She is the author of An Iridescent Life, Essays on Motherhood.
A writing instructor for more than 20 years, Marcelle has taught creative writing to young people and adults, ages 8 to 88. She has lectured at The New School, New York University, and in various libraries, bookstores and school districts nationwide. She presently teaches essay, memoir and poetry writing at the Westport Writers’ Workshop, in Westport, Connecticut, while also giving writing seminars and maintaining a private writing coaching practice.
Marcelle is a well-respected writing coach with a goal toward helping new and established writers develop, write, edit and refine their personal essays, memoirs and poetry for publication. Focused on all aspects of the writing craft, Marcelle has helped dozens of students imagine, outline, begin and finish their essays and memoirs for print and online media.
An engaging speaker, Marcelle offers various half-day seminars for writers on topics that include the art of the personal essay, inspiration to final draft, getting published, overcoming writers block and the craft of the writer’s notebook.
Marcelle has an MFA from New York University and a BA in Creative Studies from Hofstra University. She is an active member of the Writers-Editors Network, National Association of Memoir Writers, Association of Writers and Writing Programs and the International Women’s Writing Guild.
Marcelle lives in in Wilton, Connecticut with her husband Eric and five children, Luke, Sophia, Olivia, Jamie and Johny.
